Scarcity of professionals well versed in radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is a major problem that global IT Industry is encountering today. The affect of this shortage is going to be on the adoption of this technology, cautioned CompTIA’s (Computing Technology Industry Association) senior official at - RFID Connect Asia 2007, held in Singapore during the first week of March 2007.
Michael Mudd, Asia-Pacific director of public policy for the industry body, says that there’re less than 1,000 skilled professionals available throughout the globe having expertise in RFID deployment and service.
Mudd said that in comparison to numerous technicians with a CompTIA, Cisco Systems or other IT vendor certification, and expertise in troubleshooting servers or PCs, the number of skilled RFID workers available currently is pretty low. BusinessWeek.com published this statement on March 13, 2007.
Preliminary results of a survey conducted by CompTIA in February this year (2007) collected the responses of 56 industry group members, and 69.6% of them agreed that the shortage of talented pool in RFID would adversely influence the adoption of this technology.
Mudd further said that for successful execution of any RFID initiative, certified and talented professionals with expertise and experience in the engineering & design of radio frequency, SCM (Supply Chain Management), warehouse management, logistics, and know-how in RFID standards and products are the need of the hour.
As per RNCOS report on “RFID: Outlook China”, “In comparison to developed nations, the technology & adoption of RFID in China is still in its infancy particularly in ultra-high frequency (UHF) applications. Furthermore, China doesn’t hold competency in core technologies in chip manufacturing, design, antenna design, equipments and packaging etc. But this wouldn’t act as major obstacle in the growth of China’s RFID industry.”
This research report on “RFID: Outlook China” analyzes the global RFID scenario and the position of China with respect to the global market. Issues discussed in this report include: applications and opportunities associated with RFID, Chinese government policies towards RFID such as Standard development, frequency allocation etc and their impact on RFID development in China, challenges to RFID industry, etc.
