Road shows will be organized in Sri Lanka, Maldives, and West Asia to promote Kerala medical tourism. Plans to include US and several destinations of the Europe are also in pipeline, said Mr. Bhushan who was making a presentation on Kerala’s tourism prospects at medical tourism meet in Kochi, reports the Website of Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, India.

The health tourism policy of Kerala ensures a big investment opportunity for the Non-Resident Keralites (NRK), making it a venture promising huge profits in the long term. The purport of the new policy is to introduce Kerala on the international tourism stage by 2010. The government aims to achieving this by raising the budget allocations to the public health sector and allowing the private participation.

The government is ready to help NRK investors in every possible way who take the risk to invest to establish any kind of healthcare facility. But only those hospitals, which comply with the terms of National Accreditation Board (NAB) for hospitals and health providers, would succeed in getting government recognition.

The volume of tourists experienced by Kerala is surprising everybody. A stupendous growth of 31% was seen in Kerala’s tourist traffic in 2005. The main reason for this growth is not the aggressive media campaigns by State Government but the word of mouth publicity that the state has got as an inexpensive tourist destination.

According to the RNCOS report “Opportunities in Medical Tourism in India (2007)”, Kerala, since beginning, has been the most preferred destination for those looking for the rejuvenating magic of Ayurveda. But the current trends show that Kerala is emerging as a modern healthcare provider due to evolving collaborations of enterprisers in the private healthcare sector and the tourism industry who are advertising medical tourism belligerently. Hospitals are also setting up special divisions and support systems for their foreign clients.

The market research report also addresses the following critical facts and issues:

 - Overview of worldwide and Asian medical tourism industry
 - Section-wise performance of the medical tourism industry in India
 - Emerging trends and growth driving factors
 - Key regulations and policy environment

The report provides extensive research and rational analysis of the medical tourism industry in India.
