Indian Renewable Energy booming with Increased FDI

According to a recent statement from Vilas Muttemwar, Indian minister for non-conventional energy sources, German and US companies are keen to invest a sum of INR 100 Billion (US$ 2.1 Billion) in manufacturing systems and devices for renewable energy in SEZ (special economic zone). He further said that the ministry would, very soon, identify the locations to set up SEZs. Locations including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra are being studies for this purpose.
 
During 2005-2006, production of crude oil in India stood at 32 Million Ton, while imports remained nearly 99 Million Tons. In order to achieve the envisaged economic growth of more than 8%, the estimated power requirement, as of 2030, has been raised to 950,000 megawatts from the previous laid down figure of 800,000 megawatts.
