Hundreds of British junior doctors have applied for jobs in Australia, India, Canada, US, and New Zealand, said Hospital Doctor, an industry publication in its recent issue.

Several Indian hospitals in private sector have been looking for British doctors as currently, India is a leading name in medical tourism industry. So it’s culturally expedient to have an English doctor to treat a patient from Britain in India, reported Hospital Doctor. Moreover, treatment cost in India is far lower than that in the western world.

NHS (National Health Service), the largest medical employer in UK, had advertised for 22,000 junior doctors recently and got more than 30,000 applications in response. So even if the vacancies are filled, there will still be around 8,000 unemployed medicos.

Thousands of Brit doctors have the possibility of going to foreign lands due to clouded situation caused by procedural errors in the recruitment system, the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC), an online application system.

After drawing harsh critics from junior medicos and industry experts, the UK government has ordered an analysis of the recruitment system.

According to the RNCOS report "Opportunities in Indian Healthcare Sector", the Indian medical tourism industry is experiencing a fast growth both in terms of patient arrival from all over the world and soaring revenue. Growing health expenditure, expensive treatment, increasing premium for health insurance, and long waiting time for treatment in western world is making India a preferred choice.

The market research report provides a detailed analysis of the Indian healthcare sector. It talks about the various factors fueling the growth in medical tourism in India and why India is a preferred destination for overseas patients. The report gives a rational account on Indian pharmaceutical sector, Ayurvedic treatment, service sector (like hospital and pathology services), health insurance market, and medical equipment and devices market. Thorough information on opportunities, challenges, and future outlook of the market has also been provided in the report for investors.
