Glybera became First Commercialized Product

According to a new research report by RNCOS entitled, “Global Gene Therapy Market Outlook 2018”, “Glybera” formally became the first gene therapy to be approved in a regulated market in Europe. Glybera is a gene therapy developed by the Amsterdam based company UniQure. The therapy is designed to restore the LPL enzyme activity required to enable the processing, or clearance, of fat-carrying chylomicron particles formed in the intestine after a fat-containing meal.
 
Glybera would initially be sold in Germany 'with the first commercial treatments expected in the first half of 2015. Earlier in 2013, UniQure announced collaboration agreement with Chiesi pharmaceutical SpA for the commercialization of Glybera. Under the agreement Chiesi has exclusive rights to commercialize Glybera in the EU and selected additional territories. Further UniQure had received EUR 17 Million (US$ 21.8 Million) in collaboration financing, and EUR 14 Million (US$ 18 Million) in equity financing from Chiesi.
