GPS: Cable Makers Expect Stability in Market

Some of the makers of GPS cables in Pearl River Delta believe that GPS market should remain stable in the years to come. The production hub of GPS accessories in China, Pearl River Delta comprises of several municipalities of Guangdong province, Macau, and Hong Kong in Mainland China.
Nearly 60% of Chinese GPS accessory makers are based in the Delta. Cities of Foshan, Dongguan, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen are the strong manufacturing centers for the region.
Newcomers are least likely to expand their supplier base in this year (2007), according to Mainland China’s makers. However the makers are optimistic about an overall stable market with adequate supplies. Wireless GPS products’ rising popularity is seen as a potential threat for GPS cable market, as it might result in eliminating the requirement for cables.
Some makers, however, fear the market will split in two directions. On one hand, there will be wireless solutions meeting the needs of buyers, while on the other hand will be GPS cables providing support for the wired GPS (Global positioning system) products. Moreover, makers are expectant that there will be a sustained growth in the coming years as GPS cable market piggybacks on the booming GPS market.
Most makers supply GPS cables to overseas OEM and ODM markets. Because of this there has been a rise in the practice of products’ customization as per the requirements of the buyer or the destination market. Lacking a standard interface for GPS products, manufacturers still have to develop universal GPS cables that’ll work with products available today.
