Foreign Players to lead 3G in China

The five-year protection tenure of the telecom industry granted by the WTO to China as a new entrant is over. Now the air of uncertainties over the entry of for overseas investors is gradually clearing away, stated a Beijing Professor, Zeng Jianqiu. 2006 was proclaimed an important year for overseas players to access the China telecom market.
 
In 2001, China became a part of WTO basic telecom agreement that means that it will follow policies related regarding regulations, scope of telecommunications services, restrictions on foreign exchange, Internet trade and satellite telecommunications service.
 
Telecom operators in China were under tremendous pressure from the influx of foreign investments then. However, the circumstances were not as tough as thought. In fact, the China telecom sector has grown phenomenally in terms of technical advancement, service content and the metamorphosis of telecom firms.
