According to our new research report, "Indian Cement Industry Forecast to 2012", growing demand for housing units and government spending on infrastructure projects will fuel the growth of the Indian cement industry. Despite the global economic slowdown, during 2008-09, the cement production grew around 8% to 181 Million Metric Tons compared with the year-ago period and the current installed capacity reached the record high of 217 Million Metric Tons.

As per our research report, growing demand of housing units in the country will fuel the cement demand in the country. Housing sector is the major consumer of cement, accounting for more than 50% of the total cement demand. India's population is expected to reach around 1.25 Billion by the end of 2013, which will lead to higher demand of housing units in the country. Due to this, the number of houses constructed is expected to increase from 3.6 Million in 2007 to 5.61 Million by FY 2011. This concrete growth in the housing sector will, in turn, lead to huge cement demand in the country.

Further as per the research report, government's spending on infrastructure projects will further fuel the cement demand in the country. To sustain India's growth rate during a global meltdown, Indian government is targeting an investment of US$ 20.38 Billion over the next two years in the infrastructure sector.
