E- Commerce Market Stimulates Indian 3PL Market

According to a new research report by RNCOS entitled,India 3rd Party Logistics Market Outlook 2020”, the 3PL has gained huge popularity in past couple of years due to its attractive benefits and convenience. The major growth drivers of the industry are Introduction of new logistics services, increasing awareness, tough competition, rising disposable income and huge government support.
 
E-commerce is considered to be the fastest growing sector in India. With the growing popularity of internet, electronic commerce (e-Commerce) is also gaining momentum. Online retail/ e-commerce which started in 2007 have changed the pattern of how people used to shop. Starting from clothes, shoes, perfumes, accessories, electronics, home appliances, décor all the merchandise is now available online.
 
The consumer mindset has also changed in the past couple of years, they have started trusting online sites, and this has resulted in increased e-commerce market demand and ultimately increased in demand for their logistics services. Primary logistics services used the e-commerce players are transportation, warehousing, packaging, tracking and freight forwarding. It is observed that the 50% of the e-commerce market has in-house logistics operations or subsidiaries; and the other 50% is controlled by third-party logistics (3PLs) service providers including traditional Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), e-commerce focused logistics providers and India Post.
 
E-commerce market accounts for about 11% of the Indian 3PL market’s revenue alone and it is expected to capture the major chunk of the 3PL industry in near future. The primary reasons for the remarkable growth in this sector are increasing penetration of smart phones and internet, decreasing internet charges, rise in affordability, and entry of new players and introduction of new products.
