Similarly, the Institute of Applied Physics and Center for Functional Nanostructures (CFN) along with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany has engineered fluorescent proteins (FPs) from natural sources to optimize their properties as genetically encoded markers. The researchers engineered FPs into several forms like photoactivatable, photoconvertible, and Photoswitchable that provide super-resolution of live cells in culture.
