The dominance is attributed to the wide-scale adoption of lip care products across urban as well as rural areas. Further, the availability of multi-functional products in the lip make-up segment reduces consumer expenses and results in penetration of the products. For instance, some products for lip makeup functions as lip gloss as well as lip balm, which reduces the total expenses of the consumers.
 
The Indian female population predominantly adopted the lip make-up products due to easy availability and affordable pricing. Further, with the rise in urbanization, the production usage has increased. In addition, the scenario has changed due to urbanization. Earlier, only the young generation used to demand lip make-up but now these products are prevalent in almost all generations including millennial, middle-aged or geriatric female population.

For instance, Hindustan Unilever Limited launched Lakme Absolute Lip Pout Matte Masaba Lips in July 2018 and Nykaa launched Matteilicious Lip Crayon.

Aforementioned factors led the dominance of the lip make-up segment and similar trends will retain its share during the forecast period 2018-2022.
