As per a retail industry specialist, the cold weather assisted departmental store sales that had boosted new fall fashions & sales of accessories. Also, departmental stores like Federated, Nordstrom Inc and J.C. Penney all delivered more than their expected results. The retailer of casual-wear has been a favorite among the teens and same-store sales raised by 19%.

According to the world's largest retailer, it was quite clear before this week that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. would be the aberration when it told that the same-shop receipts inched 1.3% up in September. Comparable-shops sales went 1.3% up in September, whereas sales in Sam's Clubs increased only 1.1% and the total sales rose by 11.8% to reach US $ 31.21 Billion.

At Nordstrom place the fashionable retailer saw same-store sales Hike higher by 13%, which simply went above 6.2%. In the same store sales of J.C. Penney gained 8.7%, beating their expectation of 5.2%. As per Penney spokesman all the regions chalked up with comp-store growth, which includes jewelry, men's and children's stood out.

In September, Federated's chairman told that consumers have acted positively to the exchange of the majority of former May grocery stores to the Macy's brand. Chairman added that the company also raised its annual profit in the third-quarter of the year (2006).
