Boom In Indian Tourism

As a result of the efforts of Indian government for promoting the country as an attractive tourist destination, Indian tourism industry is seeing a boom.

According to the Ambika Soni, Indian tourism and culture minister, the government has spent more than US$ 15.70 million in the last financial year on the promotion and development of tourism industry of the country. It is said that about 80% of the money is spent on advertising alone. She says, "The government is putting greater emphasis on development of infrastructure at important tourist destinations and to promote and publicise various tourism products of India within the country and abroad," as per the news published by Assetz Property News Service.

With the rise in Indian economy at a rate of 7% per annum and also with the increase in disposable income of people in India, there is a greater demand for holiday trips within the country and abroad as well. This has resulted in the boom in the tourism sector. The religious tourism and the Indian initiative taken by Incredible India also play a greater role in improving the domestic tourism industry.

There was a steady increase in the number of international visitors to India over the past decade. With more and more multinationals destining India for setting up business operations there is an increase in the number of business travelers from different parts of the world. Indian culture also plays a role in luring tourists to the country. Elegant monuments and the splendid beauty of the countryside indeed make India a Mecca for tourists. The growth that the medical tourism has been witnessed of late is mainly because of the availability of low cost medical treatments from professionals in the field.

RNCOS finds out, "The travel and tourism industry of India plays a greater role in the economy of the nation. However, the country has still not realized its potential. With the power of tourism, India can boost other industries, ensure millions of new jobs, generate wealth and also can pay off international debt."
