Vietnam Retail Market Attracting Foreign Retailers

According to our new research report “Vietnam Retail Analysis (2008-2012)”, fast growth has been seen in the Vietnam retail market. This has made the country an attractive destination for multinational retailers. Moreover, the government has removed limitations on capital invested by foreign investors, in accordance with the WTO agreement. Change in the regulatory structure has encouraged foreign investors to come up with modern retail formats in the Vietnam retail market, which has increased the attention of consumers. However, the major market has been occupied by the traditional retailers.
 
As per our study, it is expected that the Vietnam retail market will continue to grow at a fast pace in the coming years with rise in consumer spending. Foreign retailers are expanding their operations to attract more consumers on the back of government support and consumer confidence. At present, traditional retailers are having the major market share, but the government decision to allow 100% entry to foreign retailers under the WTO commitment will lead modern retail to realize unrealistic growth. The share of modern retailing in 2009 reached 26% against 23% in 2008.
 
Vietnam retail market is much smaller in comparison to other developing countries like, India and China, but still the market has shown tremendous growth during the past few years. The value of retail sales has risen rapidly and the estimated retail sales was nearly US$ 78 Billion in 2010 from around US$ 65 Billion in 2009 on account of rising consumer expenditure and changing market dynamics.
