Vaccine Sales Expected to Grow Worldwide

The global vaccines market is experiencing a remarkable growth, higher than the growth rate of the traditional pharmaceuticals market. The commercial success of vaccines like Prevnar that generated US$ 2.7 Billion in 2008 has led the pharmaceutical companies to focus on this largely unexplored segment of the pharmaceutical market. Also, with a number of blockbuster vaccines in the pipeline, the market is expected to explode in future, with the global revenues already exceeding US$ 20 Billion (in 2008), says a new research report "Global Vaccine Market Forecast to 2012" by RNCOS.

We expect that increasing prevalence of diseases will be the key factor driving the need for the vaccinations in the coming times. The vaccines bring higher margins in the traditional pharmaceutical, thereby encouraging more and more players to enter the market. Vaccines are expected to fetch 20-25% more profit margins than the generics business which get 15-20% margins. Moreover, recently governments and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) like GAVI and multilateral donors have come forward for funding the process, which will further drive the vaccine sales worldwide.

Segment-wise, the adult vaccines, which presently occupy smaller share of the market than the pediatric vaccines, will emerge as the leading segment by 2012. For the first time in 2007, adult vaccines took higher share in total vaccine sales, mainly due to the robust sales of a group of influenza vaccines and the success of Merck & Co.'s Gardasil for the HPV virus.

We anticipate the global vaccine market to exceed US$ 34 Billion by 2012 on the back of new vaccines coming in for cancer, addiction and influenza. However, the pediatric vaccines will observe an insignificant growth over the period.

Our report is an outcome of the extensive study and thorough research of the various aspects of the global vaccine market. It covers the market by region, the emerging vaccine segments that are witnessing rising sales, and the upcoming vaccines that will change the market dynamics. Also, it forecasts about the emerging regions and segments based on the key developments taking place at the country level as well as across the world.
