Turkish Medical Tourism Market on a Fast Growth Path

The healthcare infrastructure in many countries is strained all over the world. Some countries face the problem of low quality and inadequate infrastructure, while in more developed countries, the problem is high cost for quality treatments with long queues, which sometimes can be a big problem for patients undergoing critical treatment. Motivated by the financial crunch during the last months of 2008 and early 2009, patients started looking for medical services, which do not compromise on quality, but are cost efficient. This proved to be a golden opportunity for Turkey’s medical tourism market driven by lower costs of treatments and high quality infrastructure. The momentum gained during the last couple of years is expected to drive the medical tourism in Turkey to grow at around a CAGR of 32% during 2010-2014.

As per our research, the country will witness a rising number of tourists seeking various medical procedures in the country. Large number of standardized (JCI Accredited) facilities will also help in attracting a large number of medical tourists. Besides, many of the medical facilities in Turkey, apart from being accredited to JCI, are affiliated to top notch healthcare providers, including Harvard Medical School and John Hopkins Hospital.
