A new research report by RNCOS, “Opportunities in Brazil Retail Sector (2007-2011)”, says that Brazil is one of the world’s largest retail markets, and due to high economic growth, rising consumer spending and increasing GDP, the Brazilian retail industry grew at an estimated CAGR of 10.8% from 2001 to 2006.

But in spite of rapid expansion of Brazil’s retail industry, there still remains a vast room for growth of the US-style malls (known as “shopping’s” locally), especially in less affluent parts of the country where penetration of the organized retailing is relatively low. The report adds that the expansion of the organized retailing will be strengthened, on one side, by diversifying facilities such as cinema, banks, travel agencies and post office provided in commercial shopping centers, and on the other side, by boosting the construction of new shopping centers near frequently visited places such as airports and metro stations.

Besides, says the RNCOS research, the rising income level in Brazil will also enable its people to consume more, subsequently driving the retail industry in near future. Hence, the increasing consumer spending grounded on continued economic growth will propel the Brazilian retail industry towards growth.

Apart from this, the report provides rational forecast on the performance of various segments of the Brazilian retail industry, including apparel industry, footwear industry and household appliances.
