Rising Investment for Proton Therapy in the US

According to RNCOS’ new report “US Proton Therapy Market Forecast to 2022”, taking into consideration the potential and demand of proton therapy, various government bodies and institutions are investing in this market. For instance, in 2010, Hampton University made an investment of US$ 225 Million for building proton therapy facility, featuring four gantry rooms and one fixed beam room. Furthermore, in March 2015, Baptist Health South Florida signed an agreement with IBA, the market leader of proton therapy solutions for the treatment of cancer for the opening of new US$ 430 million, state-of-the-art facility situated in the campus of Baptist Hospital of Miami, scheduled to open in 2017.
 
In April 2016, IBA signed a new contract with the University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute Contract worth approximately US$ 30 Million which includes a new Proteus®One system and current equipment upgrades.
 
In another recent development, the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Advanced Particle Therapy LLC of San Diego made an initial investment of more than US$ 200 Million in the upcoming proton treatment center in Maryland. This represents a public-private partnership that also brings over huge investment while providing advanced treatment options to cancer patients for the first time in the Baltimore region.
 
Most of the investments were focused on aiding the development of new centers with single treatment room. There are a number of initiatives under way that are designed to encourage investment and activity in the proton therapy segment which can bring rapid growth.
