A rising trend has been observed in the number of providers using telemedicine technology around developed countries, bringing the number of providers utilizing telemedicine platform from 54.5% to 57.7%, for the period 2014-2015. As indicated by a survey conducted by HIMSS Analytics, 44.3% of healthcare system respondents considered the patient care gaps due to community remoteness as the major reason behind embracing telemedicine.
 
According to a new research report by RNCOS entitled, “Global Telemedicine Market Outlook 2022” telehealth adoption numbers are significantly higher at hospitals situated in rural areas, as compared to urban areas. Technologies including systems used for chronic disease management are installed with alarming systems that detect and report any adverse events to healthcare providers, hence promoting timely delivery of critical care, and reducing the mortality rate. By providing higher safety and quality standards to patients, demand for such systems is expected to rise, thereby providing lucrative growth. Around 42% of US hospitals have already adopted telehealth platforms and are utilizing the technology to treat patients. Additionally, a report published in February's Health Affairs analyzing several telehealth market trends across US, derived that adoption varied on a state-by-state basis, owing to various factors, such as state policies. The three states with the highest telemedicine adoption rates are Alaska (75%), Arkansas (71%), and South Dakota (70%). This indicates that factors such as state policies affect the hospitals offering telehealth services to a great extent.
 
The telemedicine market itself is rapidly evolving, new technologies are coming on and the vendors catering to this particular space are increasing. Vendors offering telemedicine technology have shown great jump in the recent years. Also, last few years has observed an upward trend in the growth of familiarity with telemedicine products and services with the increasing adoption. The most widely used telemedicine technology is the two-way web or video camera. Seventy percent of the individuals who have adopted telemedicine solutions reported using this for communicating with patients.
