According to our research report Kenya Telecom sector Analysis, since the deregulation of the Kenyan telecom sector in 2001, the country’s mobile sector has been witnessing a steady growth and improvement in terms of number of mobile subscribers along with the mobile services offered by mobile operators. We have found that, at present, all the mobile operators in the country are counting on the rolling out of their respective 3G services to increase their subscriber numbers. Due to factors such as population explosion in urban cities and metropolis, the mobile subscriber base in the country is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 15% till 2013.

Our study shows that due to the future-looking vision of the government, Kenya is on the verge of becoming one of the fastest growing Internet/broadband markets in the continent. Our research projects that the number of Internet users and broadband subscribers will grow at a stupendous growth rate during 2010-2013. Emergence of new technologies, like WiMAX and 3G are expected to drive the growth in this sector. Our report has thoroughly analyzed the emergence of these new areas.

The future growth of telecom operators will be primarily in two key categories - Scale and Scope. For telecom operators, the potential growth path will depend on the increasing customer base and revenue share, and most preferably a combination of the two. Moreover, operators must have the ability to anticipate competition and control the critical mass for competitive advantage. In this way, they can achieve their growth targets.

According to our research, the country’s telecom sector will witness a surge in its subscriber base due to the strong government support and increased competitiveness among the country’s telecom operators. We have found that as far as growing revenue and scope are concerned, operators need to extend and expand their business to include VAS that go beyond basic telecom services. The report has thoroughly discussed the government initiatives and provides an overview of the competitive landscape in the country, in which leading industry players have been covered.
