Infrastructure Growth to Drive the Education Sector in the Kingdom

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has the largest population in the region, thus it represents the largest education market amongst peer countries. With a large population (over 55%) falling in the young age group of 24 years and below, the country has huge growth potential at all levels of education, be it elementary, intermediate, secondary, or higher education. The sector is also continuously benefitting from the government initiatives and the thrust to have a good education system. Sharp increase in the number of universities during the past few years has facilitated the growth of student enrollments in higher learning public institutions, which is further expected to grow at a CAGR of around 9% during 2011-2014.

According to our research report Saudi Arabia Education Forecast to 2013, the country will witness an increase in the enrollments at all levels of education. One of the major drivers for such growth will be involvement of government in infrastructure development for the industry. It has allocated SR 150 Billion for education and manpower development in FY 2011 compared to SR 137.6 Billion in FY 2010. A significant share of this budget will go to the development of higher education facilities in the country.

Additionally, it has been found that there were only 373 researchers /million population in the Arab region. The ratio was almost the same for Saudi Arabia. Whereas, the global average stands at over 1081 researchers/million population. Thus, a major share of the technical work is going to expatriates and the country needs many skilled workers in a short time span. Foreign universities can contribute a lot in this regard by training domestic manpower.

Saudi Arabia Education Forecast to 2013provides an extensive research and objective analysis of the education sector in Saudi Arabia.
