Nigeria’s Internet market is underdeveloped and further weighed down by various factors such as Low fixed-line and PC penetration, poor network quality, and high connection cost. However, the country is witnessing a transformation because of intense competition among ISPs and various government initiatives such as Computers for All Nigerians Initiative (CANI), Digital Awareness Program etc. According to our research report Nigeria Telecom Sector Analysis, thenumber of internet subscribers is projected to grow at a CAGR of around 14% during 2010-2013. Infrastructure developments, for instance, laying underwater submarine cable, will also supplement the growth, as the cable will offer faster and cheaper Internet access to the subscribers.

Our research reveals that because of lower internet penetration rate at less than 10%, Nigeria has become one of the most lucrative markets for ISPs and telecom operators in Africa. Many companies, including wireless solutions providers, data transmission and VSAT equipment and services providers, are venturing into Nigerian market to explore new opportunities and to capture the niche. We have also found that the growth will benefit the younger generation as the government wants to increase its reach to schools and colleges; in order to boost up technical skills and e-education.
