According to a new research report by RNCOS entitled, “Global Influenza Vaccine Market Outlook to 2022”, the influenza vaccine has gained huge popularity in past couple of years due to frequent life threatening influenza outbreaks. The major growth drivers of the industry are growing healthcare expenditure, increasing awareness, tough competition, rising disposable income and huge government support.
 
There has been rising incidence of pandemic influenza outbreaks year on year. It is determined by how the disease spreads and not by how many deaths it causes. When a new influenza A virus ripens, a flu pandemic can occur. Because the virus is new, the human population has little to no immunity against it. The virus spreads quickly from person-to-person worldwide.
 
The pandemic outbreak started back in 1981 and till date the world is experienced dangerous outbreaks in every three to four years. The last outbreak, H1N1 virus, was spread in the spring of 2009 across the world. By June, 74 countries in the world were severely affected by the outbreak. The CDC estimates that 43 - 89 Million people had H1N1 between April 2009 and April 2010. It also estimated that between 8,870 and 18,300 people died due to H1N1. However, the companies like Sinovac, GSK, Sanofi worked on developing a H1N1 vaccine at a very high pace and it is estimated that around 80 million people were vaccinated against H1N1 in the same year, which minimized the impact of the illness.
 
Similarly, The H3N2 flu has now spread across most of Western Europe, the United States, and Canada, and is taking a particularly high toll of illness and fatality among young children.  According to CDC, in the beginning of 2015, 61 people in America had died due to H3N2 flu and at least five different flu strains are circulating in the United States currently. The increasing incidence of influenza outbreaks will certainly catalyze the global influenza vaccine market in the coming future.
