According to our new research report, "Emerging Medical Tourism in Turkey", despite the gloomy outlook for the world economy, medical tourism industry in Turkey has witnessed an impressive growth of around 40% in 2008 over the same period last year. Cost advantage and strategic location of the country between three continents will fuel the growth in the Turkish medical tourism industry.

As per the research report, increase in the number of medical tourists over the past years is mainly driven by the cost advantage. In Turkey, fees for treatments range from one-half to as little as one-fifth of the price in the Europe and other developed countries. For example, surgeries, on an average, cost US$ 6,000 in Europe while in Turkey, the average cost for such surgeries ranges between US$ 600 to 1,100. Interestingly, the technology used in Turkey is same as that used in Europe. Apart from this, the ongoing economic crisis has considerably reduced the purchasing power of the Europeans and now, they are heading towards Turkey for cheaper health treatments.

Besides this, Turkey's strategic location between Asia, Africa and Europe makes it a gateway for the all types of tourist arrivals, including both leisure and business tourists. This enables visitors from around the world to enjoy the region extensively during their trips to Turkey. This is further boosted by the country's good air connectivity. Turkey has linking with almost all major cities of the world. Easy accessibility to Turkey and better connectivity with other countries has driven the health tourism industry of the country to great extent.
