Our research study “China Wind Sector Analysis”, shows that the wind power industry in China is moving fast on the development track and is expected to achieve robust growth in the coming years. Despite economic crisis, China’s wind power industry enjoyed an investment spree in 2008, making it the largest global investment market for wind power. As a result of the developments going on in the country along with strong government support, we anticipate that the country’s cumulative wind power installed capacity will reach an estimated value of 55 GW by 2012 end. We have discussed the recent developments in our report.
Currently, the Chinese wind power industry is at its nascent stage and has great potential for future growth, especially in the field of wind equipment manufacturing. Our research finds that many domestic companies are interested in the manufacturing of complete equipment sets, but lags behind in the technology for the developments of parts like electric controls and gearboxes. We have thoroughly discussed the wind equipment market by value, manufacturers, and components in the report.
At the provincial/state level, we have found that the top five provinces that are rich in wind resource accounted for more than half of the country’s cumulative installed wind power capacity in 2008. These states will continue to dominate the Chinese wind market in future also. The report provides a detailed analysis on these provinces along with their future outlook till 2012.
We have found that the biggest problem faced by the wind power industry in the country is the capability of the Chinese grid systems to integrate wind-generated power. A large number of wind farms operating in the country have limited access to the grid. As per the country’s Renewable Energy Law, priority has to be given to the electricity generated by the renewable sources of energy for grid access. Our report has conducted an analysis not only on grid planning, but also on other priority areas for wind energy market. Besides, the report has discussed wind power pricing mechanism, regulatory framework, and competitive landscape.
