According to our latest report “Chile Food and Beverages Market Outlook to 2013” consumption patterns in Chile have undergone tremendous transformations during the past decade. For instance, people are shifting from locally produced staples to more expensive branded products, and are incorporating processed packaged foods in their diet chart. Improving health awareness will continue to bolster demand for “diet” and “light” foods and beverages. At the same time, consumption of convenience food is rising with increasing number of women joining the workforce and rising average working hours. With these shifts and other factors, the food and beverages retail sales is expected to reach US$ 26.5 billion in 2013.

Chile’s fruit industry will see a significant expansion, as it gains preferential access to massive new markets, such as, India and China. Chile is already the southern hemisphere's largest fruit exporter. We have found that the consumption of carbonated drinks in Chile is among the highest in Latin America, but as a result of growing health consciousness and awareness, demand for non-carbonated soft drinks like fruit juice and mineral water are rapidly expanding from a low base.

As per our study, fast food is one of the emerging trends in the country. As demand for convenience eating practices is increasing and young Chileans are adopting the US eating habits, fast food franchises are particularly growing well.
