Tourism Sector climbs to the record high in 2008 as the shifting trends and improved security measures in Israel are attracting more and more international tourists.
Tourist arrivals in Israel hit an all-time record high in 2008 at the crucial time of global financial crisis that has severely affected the world tourism industry, as reported by ynetnews.
As revealed by the World Travel Market fair held in London, so far in 2008, the total tourist arrivals in Tel Aviv city of Israel was recorded at 34% higher from 2000. Earlier, 2000 was marked as the landmark year for the tourism industry of Israel, corresponding to the large scale tourist arrivals as Pope John Paul II visited the country that year.
During the period Jan-Sep 2008, Israel witnessed about 2.3 Million tourist arrivals, recording a 38% growth over Jan-Sep 2007. It is expected that by the end of 2008, the tourism sector of the country will be able to attain its target of 2.8 Million tourists over 2.292 Million tourists registered in 2007.
The primary reason that is triggering the growth in tourism industry of Israel is that in recent times, the country is extensively being looked upon as a tourist destination, overcoming its image of a religious destination.
Further, Israel is witnessing a change and apparently for the first time in history, it is going trendy. This has given the tourists more options to explore than just religious purpose. Also, the tourism-based businesses are on a surge in the country.
Moreover, more and more tourists from Russia and Germany are heading to Israel due to convenient and better travel facilities. With the regular emergence of new tourist destinations, the tourism industry is constantly growing in the country. Also, enhanced security arrangements in Israel are making the country an ideal holiday option for the international tourists, especially those from America and Europe.
According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, “The contribution of tourism industry in Israeli economy can’t be ignored in such a tough phase of global crisis. And through proper national handling and allocation of right marketing strategies, tourism will continue to contribute significantly in 2009 as well, a more challenging year.”
