Colorado is taking appreciable steps to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions 80% below the current levels by the year 2020 in an attempt to make the environment pollution-free.
Colorado has vowed to combat global warming by implementing clean-car principles, renewing farming techniques to entrap more volume of carbon dioxide and reducing emission from electric utilities by 20% by the year 2020, in news published by Denverpost.
The climate action proposal of Governor Bill Ritter include objectives that are similar to states like California and New Jersey with the intension of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 80% below the existing level by midcentury.
During 2005, Colorado alone released greenhouse gasses totaling 118 Million Metric Tons, rising by 35% since 1990, as per the state strategy. If the states continued business in the same manner, the emissions are likely to rise up to 158 Million Metric Tons by 2020, leading to fuel deficiency and early melting of snow locally along with warmer global temperatures.
Consequently, the government initiated a new plan that include several strategies like building a market for carbon credit by which ranchers and farmers who utilize land-use practices that seize added carbon in soil can trade credits with polluters. It also intends to boost efficiency and minimize consumption of gasoline, electricity, and natural gas for businesses, residences, and industry.
Under the related plan, the government also aims to form Directs Colorado Air Quality Control Commission to start probing the standards of vehicle emission based on California-style. The plan also recommends increased use of energy preservation programs for industry and homes. The plan intends to discover methods to enhance the recycling rate ahead of its present level of 12%. It proposes implementing programs like "pay as you throw" that charge residents on the basis of garbage send by them to the landfills.
On the other hand, a group which represents Colorado car dealers cautioned their industry might suffer due to reliability over tougher standards set by Ritter instead of offering incentives as Ritter is doing to different industries.
A Senior Research Analyst at RNCOS says, “The issue of global warming has proved to be a serious cause of concern for the entire world. Colorado is undertaking considerable steps to minimize its emissions of carbon dioxide. This will assist in making the environment clean while encouraging other countries to take similar steps to combat global warming. The reduction in CO2 emissions will be supportive also for the related industries in the state, like tourism, power and particularly agriculture”.
