China has recently disclosed that it will concentrate on the development of tourism industry and reduce its reliance on polluting industries for economic growth.
China’s State Council, the Cabinet, has recently unveiled plans to boost the tourism industry and make it an important pillar of the national economy, as reported by Xinhuane.
According to a statement given by a State Council executive, the government has called for the improvement of management and services in the tourism industry that consumes fewer resources and creates more job opportunities.
Besides, more efforts should be applied for the development of tourism infrastructure and training of people associated with the industry, said the executive.
The Chinese government is also expected to reduce the market threshold in order to persuade social capital and firms for investment in the sector. It is also committed to maintain a congenial environment that foster collaboration between tourism and its related industries such as culture, agriculture, sports and environmental protection.
The State Council has also expressed its concern for the protection of eco-system, cultural and historical heritage and natural environment.
China will also look for foreign investment in the tourism industry and enhanced the market access, said the government. However, the government didn’t throw light on the plans it would promote to increase foreign investment in the tourism industry.
The State Council further said that it would lay emphasis on restructuring of state-owned tourism firms and would encourage fair participation of private and state-owned companies in the sector.

RNCOS, the current reforms and developments have resulted into strong growth of the tourism industry and multistage transformations that have lured tourists from inside the country as well as overseas. The industry growth can be segregated into different phases of which the first stage actually focused on the inbound travel market and the development of outbound and domestic travel market.
A Senior Research Analyst at
RNCOS said, “Beijing has been concentrating on the development of its service sector, particularly tourism, to reduce its dependence on pollution causing industry without hurting economic growth. It will develop the tourism into a strategic backbone industry of the national economy.”
