Global semiconductor sales gone up by 5% in September against the earlier month due to worldwide application of computers in daily life and huge investments being made into the sector.
Global semiconductor sales in the month of September this year climbed up by 5% from August to cross $22.5 Billion, as per the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), with total sales till date in 2007 going slightly higher than the association’s estimate, as per the news published by Thestreet.
“Demand from the consumer products sector was robust as sales of semiconductors for traditional consumer applications rose by 35% every quarter. Strong sales of mobile phones and personal electronics products were a major contributor to sharp increases in revenue for NAND flash, which rose by more than 46% from the previous quarter”, said George Scalise, SIA President, as per the statement published by New electronics.
The chip industry is believed to be the primary driver of the gross semiconductor sales. Worldwide chip sales rose to $22.6 Billion during September 2007, up from $21.3 Billion in September last year. Also, the spike in sale of microprocessors, flash memories and ASICs, with the upbeat DRAM market, propelled the semiconductor sales.
The chief reason for the booming global semiconductor industry is the widespread use of computers. The dependence of the working population on computers, along with the increasing use of personal computers, also thrust the general demand for semiconductor devices.
Another factor for the semiconductor industry’s growth is the investments made in the sector. There is enormous competition in the semiconductor world today. Numerous new arrivals bring forth new technologies and various strategies and new-age technologies doled out by the semiconductor makers entice the consumers to go for them.
Also, the rising world economy and the inclination of the global youth towards technology-oriented lifestyle helped in driving the total semiconductor sales ahead across the world.
According to a Senior Research Analyst at RNCOS, “On the back of solid reasons, the global semiconductor industry is forging ahead impressively. However, the only challenge being faced by semiconductor industry is the high density of semiconductor manufacturers globally. The competition has become so intense that the makers are no more concerned with the quality; they just manufacture a new technology and then shift the entire concentration on quantity. But for the better future of the industry, it has to be sorted out as early as possible”.
