Norway?s Solar Energy Industry could See Unlimited Growth

Nov 19, 2007

Norway’s solar power industry is going to see an unlimited growth when the production costs will become lesser than production costs of conventional energy sources in 3-5 years.

As per a major producer of the solar energy equipments, Renewable Energy Corporation, the solar power sector in Norway is likely to observe unlimited growth when the costs of the production becomes lesser than that of the conventional energy sources in three to five years time. Reuters published this news.

Erik Thorsen, Norway's Renewable Energy Corp.’s Chief Executive, said that due to the developments made in the production technologies and solar cell efficiencies, the production costs of electricity from sunlight were being cut, according to the news published by Reuters.

The competitive solar energy in ‘sun belt’ - places that get 1,400 hours of solar power per year (places like Mediterranean and North America) - is going to allow the Renewable Energy Corp. to supply to major parts of the world. Aftenposten published this news.

The solar power is better than other energy sources because they do not cause any air or noise pollutions, and also do not emit any harmful radiations. One does not have to lubricate, fuel, or supply maintenance to the solar equipments, and just have to keep the glass surface very clean, which can be done simply by hosing down solar equipments from time to time.

Solar components are capable of producing more power in a gram of some material than nuclear power, and that too minus the large quantities of hazardous products that affects the environment. It also produces more power in five years than the amount of power consumed by it while producing.

But in the areas like northern region, which receives less sunlight, the country’s government should make the price of this energy reasonable, unless the customers are ready to pay high prices to use green energy. Erik Thorsen said that the solar industries should decrease the prices significantly during 2007 to 2010-2012 without making any sorts of distortions in marginal pictures.

A Senior Research Analyst at RNCOS revealed, “The solar energy production increase could conserve renewable energy sources. With the growing economy and increasing demand for electricity in Norway, the solar power’s growth would boost the power production”.
