Malaysia is going to host the Asia Medical Tourism & Wellness Congress in May 2010 when both local and international exhibitors come to participate in the mega event.
Malaysia is all set to welcome more than 1,500 trade visitors, sponsors and exhibitors who will come to participate in the Asia Medical Tourism & Wellness Congress scheduled to be organized in Kuala Lumpur in May 2010. These participants will come from different regions of the world, including Asia, Europe, the Middle East and USA to mark their presence in the Congress / GLOW 2010, as reported by
Pr Inside.
Organizers believe that GLOW 2010 will be an important regional event for the medical and spa tourism industry because it provides a networking ground to the wellness industries. The mega regional event will serve as platform for the participants to spread wellness concepts to the corporate world.
Malaysia has become a favorite medical tourism destination for patients who search for 30-50% lower price treatment compared to rival neighboring countries like India and Thailand. A normal coronary bypass surgery cost $10,000-$13,000 in Malaysia whereas the same procedure in neighboring countries cost around $20,500.
In addition, the Malaysian government has shown great interest in the promotion of health tourism and has taken several proactive measures in this direction. The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB, Tourism Malaysia) has undertaken a three-year project to collect relevant and essential data on the health tourism in wake of country’s landmark steps to increase the number of foreign patients.
A leading market research firm
RNCOS has claimed that Malaysia is one the most popular tourist destinations in the ASEAN region. Its new research report “
Malaysia Medical Tourism Outlook 2012” has highlighted that the global economic downturn fails to retard the progress of Malaysian medical tourism which has recently emerged as the fastest growing segment of the overall tourism industry. Patients from countries like the US and UK prefer Malaysia to get their complicated surgeries done as the cost of same procedure in their own countries quite high.
Industry Pundits see the Middle East as a ferment region which will have a key role in driving medical tourists to Malaysia. Moreover, Malaysia is moderate Islamic country and suits to the aspiration of large Middle East Muslim population for healthcare services.
According to a Research Analyst at
RNCOS, “The hosting of Asia Medical Tourism & Wellness Congress in 2010 will help in the evolution of effective methods for the implementation of successful wellness programs that will take the medical tourism industry to new heights. GLOW 2010 is expected to be the biggest gathering of both local and international exhibitors from different parts of the world.”
