Keeping in view its vast natural as well as cultural resources, China is predicted to receive the maximum number of inbound tourists in 2020.
Chinese tourism industry holds good prospects for future and this fact is supported by the prediction of the World Tourism Organization that China will become the leading country in the world to receive inbound tourists in 2020, reported
People’s Daily Online.
As far as statistics are concerned, China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) has revealed that China’s tourism industry will grow slightly, from 1% to 2%, both in terms of tourist arrivals and tourism revenues in 2009.
China’s richness in natural and cultural resources is leading to the growth of its tourism industry. With China increasingly opening up to the outside world and the improving tour facility, China is certainly expected to enjoy a higher status in the global tourism industry. Moreover, with Beijing successfully hosting the 2008 Olympics, China’s status in the world has further enhanced.
During H1 2009, China’s tourism, from mainland to foreign destinations, surged by 1.1%. On the other hand, the country’s domestic tourism recorded 11.7% year-on-year growth to 1 Billion tourists during the same period. In fact, the growth in the domestic tourism market of China has largely lessened the negative impacts of the worldwide economic slowdown on the country’s tourism industry. This, in turn, has helped the industry to ensure stable development.
Realizing the importance of its tourism industry, China invested heavily on attracting tourists during the 2008 Olympics and the same is being done for the upcoming 2010 Shanghai World Expo, says a recent industry research “
China Tourism Industry Forecast to 2012” by
RNCOS. According to the report, with 24 new hotels under construction in Beijing, as many as 10,000 guest rooms are expected to be added to the already existing ones.
As per the RNCOS’ report, Chinese government, taking advantage of its tropical climate, is developing Hainan as a hub for golf tourism. All these factors together will push the country to new heights in the world tourism.
According to a Research Analyst at
RNCOS, “Although China witnessed marginal decline in inbound tourist arrivals in 2008 on account of financial crisis, the figure is likely to increase in future. Travelers from Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan will dominate these figures. Moreover, in order to make its tourism industry more appealing, China needs to develop tourism brands in different aspects.”
