The Romanian IT industry is expected to reach about US$ 2.96 Billion in 2008 but it needs to focus on problems like software piracy for sustaining high growth.
IDC projected that the Romanian IT market will reach around US$ 2.96 Billion (1.878 Billion Euros) in 2008 over nearly US$ 1.9 Billion (1.22 Billion Euros) in 2007, as reported by Financiarul.ro.
According to IDC, the hardware segment of the Romanian IT industry is likely to record the most impressive growth of 36.6%, followed by services and software at 19.6% and 13.7% respectively. Moreover, the hardware market is likely to reach around US$ 2.24 Billion (1.43 Billion Euros) in 2008 and will become larger than the overall Romanian IT market in 2007.
The rapid adoption of broadband Internet services and rising purchase of hardware are the major growth drivers for the IT industry in Romania. The hardware infrastructure demand is high in the country, thus, hardware maintenance is required, particularly for servers, middleware and mainframes. Also, the hardware infrastructure has developed significantly and it needs better specialized services.
Moreover, due to increasing competition and complexity, various companies will implement advanced hardware as a part of projects for good business solutions. This will lead to increase in use of hardware infrastructure for better business solution implementation. Hence, various large projects will involve huge infrastructure investments, resulting in the overall growth of the Romanian IT industry.
Also, due to the existence of piracy, there are some hindrances in growth of software market in Romania. Further, the Romanian infrastructure software market, which maintains various management services as several public and private organizations have efficient IT infrastructure, especially in hardware and applications, requires more software for further growth and expansion. However, in spite of the country’s size and good development in the IT sector, the Romanian IT industry represents a very small share in the Eastern European region.
A Senior Research Analyst at RNCOS said, “High growth in software and hardware market of Romania will drive the country’s overall IT sector. Thus, IT sector should not only focus on production and distribution of hardware, a main factor for attracting investors, but also on various other problems of the industry such as software piracy by implementing strict rules and regulations.”
