Aug 19, 2008

The global mobile Internet service market is anticipated to grow to $80 Billion by 2011 owing to rising demand of hi-tech devices, customized service and intense business activity.

IBM conducted a study that projects the mobile Internet services to grow to US$ 80 Billion by 2011 with the number of users worldwide reaching one billion, up by a stupendous 191% from 2006 with year-on-year growth of 24%, as reported by TelecomTiger.

IBM further revealed that the transactional and utility services will have a great importance on mobile web. As high as 60% consumers have shown interest to access banking services on mobile phones, while other applications are also anticipated to gain popularity in future with 53% consumers showing interest in Mobile TV and 45% in purchasing music through mobile phones.

The rapid growth in the global mobile Internet service industry is primarily due to rising consumer demand as they are looking for more personalized and customized services on their mobile handsets. Moreover, consumers are increasingly favoring those service providers that provide a wide range of choices in applications and services on their mobile handsets. Consequently, the demand for mobile Internet service has risen at an unprecedented growth rate.

Besides, the increasing use of mobile phones and Internet services due to the launch of advanced products and improved services is boosting the global mobile Internet market. Now customers have a multitude of options in hi-tech devices, new technologies and open market standards that are together promoting the use of Internet on mobile phones.

In addition, with rising employment level worldwide, the demand for advanced mobile Internet service has increased as nearly 60% of work in the corporate sector is done through web browsing. Apart from this, the rising consumer spending and growing education level at the global level is prompting consumers to access Internet on mobile phones, thus boosting growth in the mobile Internet market.

According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, “The changing business models and pricing structures are also driving the global mobile Internet market because manufacturers are making their products service-driven instead of device-driven. Hence, it is creating huge growth opportunities for operators worldwide to grow rapidly and heated competition is boosting services in the industry.”
