China to See Upsurge in Inbound Tourism in Near Term

Aug 07, 2008

The number of inbound tourists in China is expected to grow 7-8% a year and reach around 163 Million in 2010, says PATA.

The Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA) has revealed that the number of inbound tourists in China is expected to grow rapidly by 7 to 8% per year and reach about 163 Million in 2010, as reported in the news published by ChinaDaily.

An increasing focus on inbound tourism than domestic tourism is one of the major reasons for the rapid growth in the tourism industry of China. Also, the inbound travel forms the largest segment of the tourism industry of the country as cheaper airfares are leading to rise in overall tourist arrivals to China.

Moreover, rapid economic development of the country due to a huge market, which is growing at a fast pace in comparison to other developing markets, is recognized as one of the main factors for increasing growth in inbound arrivals in China. Thus, the growing economy of the country is leading to an increase in overseas tourist arrivals to China.

Moreover, the Chinese government is extending increasing support to the tourism industry, thereby fuelling further growth into the sector. The government has planned to focus more on six market segments in the industry to maintain long-term sustainability and prosperity of tourism industry in China. Also, the government is taking various reformative measures to improve the infrastructural development in China to encourage more overseas tourists to visit the country.

Further, the availability of economically priced convention facilities and fully-developed tourism resources in the country are leading to strong growth in the tourism industry of China. Also, the various upcoming global events such as Shanghai World Expo 2010 and the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou are likely to increase the number of inbound tourists to China, resulting in growth in the tourism sector of the country.
