Backed with the support of the efficient service of Taiwan's medical specialists and the cabinet level Council for Economic Planning And Development (CEPD), the government is planning to promote Medical tourism in the island, says The China Post.
CEPD says that the primary target of the council will be overseas tourists who are on a search for treatment for cranio-facial abnormalities, hepatitis, and dental problems, since Taiwan has expertise in all these areas. Thus, the government will be initially concentrating on the services which are known to the experts. These services include medical checkups, hepatitis treatment, dentistry, and cranio-facial surgery.
Medical tourism is gaining more popularity these days. People from many parts of the world prefer medical tourism. Taiwan's people are turning more and more health conscious and you can find spas of Taiwan luring people who are eager to improve their health. Upscale spas that combine elements from Bali, North America, and Europe started opening up in China and promises unique treatments and settings.
As per the tourism bureau of Taiwan, there are many places of interest for the health tourists from China. Tourists from China are familiar with Taiwan and language is also not a concern for them. Compared to US, the medical costs in Taiwan are cheaper and people have much confidence on the medical standards provided here.
Eye clinics of Taiwan are already luring foreign visitors who are seeking on Lasik surgery. The Lasik surgery is available for less than $1,000, which is very lower than those in the Southeast Asian countries. High quality medical care is promised in the hospitals of Taiwan.
According to the research analyst at RNCOS, traditional herbal medicines of China that are formalized in Taiwan coupled with drug-regulation system and doctor-licensing as against those used for mainstream western system of medicine may help Taiwan make its place in medical tourism industry.
Travel agencies are planning to expand their health tourism market and attract more people rather than focusing only on the ethnic Chinese. Decisions on whether to make invasive health care treatments for tourists are under consideration by the government of China. This will play a greater role in improving the health tourism industry of Taiwan.
