The upcoming Tourism Futures conference (scheduled to be held in August) will have an elaborate discussion on the education sector's role in the growing Australian tourism industry.
The August conference of Tourism Futures will have an elaborate discussion on the role of education sector in growing Australia's tourism market, as reported by Travel Blackboard.
It is said that 46% of total growth recorded by the Australian tourism industry since 2000 have stemmed from international students, while international tourists came for holiday vacations in the same period accounted for 14% of the total arrivals. Overall, the education tourism represents merely 6% of the total international tourists, but it contributes 22% of overall revenue from inbound tourism.
Countries playing critical role in this growth are China and India as both the countries along with other South-east Asian countries give a lot of importance to develop their children's skills in the Western education.
According to convener of the Tourism Futures conference and tourism industry identity, Mr. Tony Charters, "Academics are easily stereotyped as being cosseted away from the cut and thrust of the business world, but when everyone else is reeling, it is the education sector providing a guiding light for the tourism industry", as reported by ETURBONEWS on July 7, 2009.
Charter further said: "Tourism Futures is renowned for taking a forward looking agenda - casting an eye into the next decade - and while the industry and policy makers at all levels of government have some critical tactics to decide upon, it is refreshing to see one sector getting very impressive results."
Charters further added that it was not only the educational institutions that attracted international students, but the students came here visit several places and enjoy traveling. In fact, they often asked their parents to come here for holidays.
However, attacks on Indian students in recent months have forced state governments and federals to chart a new strategy for international students. The government of Australia has clarified that it will focus on close contact between students and regional community and will give full support to police in curbing violence.
According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, "The Australian tourism industry has to closely examine strategy and methods adopted by the educational sector to attract foreigner students from two key markets India and China that account for major growth in the sector. Besides, the Australian government's reiteration of providing complete security to foreigner students will enable the industry to attract more students from overseas."
