Broadband and IPTV industry is expected to grow at fast pace in coming months owing to the rising demand for improved communication and technological innovations.
According to the latest IPTV and broadband statistics released by the Broadband Forum, both the services are expected to witness impressive growth despite the global economic meltdown, as reported by Mybroadband.
Forum's report shows strong growth in broadband that grew by 16.6 Million lines worldwide during Jan-March 2009 and over three million lines were spread across North America. IPTV also performed impressively last quarter. With this, broadband lines soared to 429.2 Million worldwide and the growth recorded during Jan-March 2009 was slightly up from the previous three months. Moreover, twenty countries posted growth rate at 10% or more in that time period.
The highest growth among the top twenty countries was registered by India, followed by Ukraine, Egypt and Mexico. North America grew at 3.87% to over 93.5 Million lines in the period.
The report says that while the world is currently passing through tough economic time, the demand for broadband and IPTV will continue to soar at fast pace owing to people's need to improve speed and quality of communications.
In terms of growth, emerging markets of Asia posted the highest figures in the region when compared with their smaller installed bases. The adoption of IPTV services has substantially surged in most parts of the world, particularly in Latin America and Eastern Europe.
In terms of technology, DSL is still the most sought broadband access technology. Forum officials have claimed that the share of fiber grew significantly but wireless showed high proportionate rise.
According to a new research report by RNCOS, "Global IPTV: Market Analysis and Forecast to 2011", the deployment of IPTV has been led by broadband that is witnessing high growth in several markets across the world.
Besides, convergence, innovation and changing consumer behavior in North America are fueling demand for IPTV services. Asia-Pacific is likely to surpass other parts of the world in terms of infrastructure development, service revenue and subscribers. Rising broadband penetration is expected to drive IPTV in the region.
