AOL Provides Free Computer Insurance to Subscribers

Jul 01, 2007

Insurance cover will be given free of cost to paid AOL subscribers to cover damages to computers and other losses.

Insurance cover will be given free of cost to paid AOL subscribers to cover damages to computers, identity thefts & other plum offers. With this move, AOL intends to get back its receding subscriber base.

The Insurance is proffered through AIG (American International Group) that can cover claims up to $ 10,000 to help the clients in restoring their credit & identity, unconcerned with how their sensitive information, such as bank account & SSN numbers details got leaked.

It also provides covers for reapplying for chucked loan applications, credit reports, legal fees & also the loss in wages of up to $ 2000. However, losses because of scams are not taken care as financial institutions that are involved in the scams sometimes compensate the losses. Damages to Computer are being covered in a separate policy offering up to USD 1,000 to replace or repair PCs physical damages.

"Identity thefts are becoming a major problem for computer users. AOL is taking it as an opportunity to regain its dropping subscriber base by providing free insurance to its subscribers," said an analyst at
RNCOS.

Recently, AOL got a lot of denunciation from security firms regarding its new software, AOL (9.0) that was labeled as 'badware'. With such strategies, AOL looks to win back hearts.

"It could be amazingly profitable. Now, one can gain so much, that too, for free. They are attempting to make a distinction in fee service," said Rob Enderle of Enderle Group in news published by Associated Press.
