Vista May Take Longer To Zero-In Europe

Jun 24, 2007

According to Microsoft CorporationLaunching of Vista (Operating System) by Microsoft may possibly be postponed in Europe.

Microsoft Corporation states that the starting of the new Operating System relies a lot on the antitrust necessities of the European Commission. Though, European Commission has called this declaration 'confusing' and adds that it is wrong to charge European Commission for the probable postponement of the launch of OS in the European region.

When quizzed about the repercussions of the new features in Vista, Microsoft's spokesperson asserted that the company had given concrete proposals to EU (European Union), detailing all the features. "As we get subsequent responses from the European Commission, we would know whether the Commission is looking for more changes in the designing of products that may cause interruption in Europe," said a company insider in an article published in the ZDNet News.

The company will have to satisfy competition and antitrust laws, which forbid unfair practices in trade & anti-competitive performance. Prior to this, Microsoft was sued in 1999 by a merger comprising 19 states and the Federal Justice Dept, which had alleged Microsoft of deliberately monopolizing markets to out beat Netscape that had begun to offer serious competition to Microsoft.

"Microsoft would be the lone sufferer if Vista gets delayed in Europe, as it may increase piracy of Vista in Europe's Market, as European nationals would certainly be eager to set their hands on the new Operating System, just as it is released. Microsoft wants to sort out the matter before it gets too late," say analysts at

European Union's & Microsoft are a legalized battle against each other ever since 2004 after Brussels sue Microsoft for about US $640 Mn as a fine for violation under antitrust laws and admonished the company to revise its trading methods.

A representative of the European Commission said that, it is not in the hands of the Commission to grant Microsoft a green signal until Vista is set on the marketplace; it is up to Microsoft to acknowledge and execute its tasks in conformity with EU competition rules. Vista is however, projected to strike markets by the end of January 2007.
