The US Department of Commerce stated that their travel and tourism industry had recorded total sales of $1.2 Trillion in the country last year.
The number of international travelers who visited the country in February was 2.9 Million, which was around 9% more than February 2006. The expenditure by these visitors also rose by 8%, accounting to a total of $9.2 Billion during the month, as per the news published on PressRoom.
Sampson, the Deputy Commerce Secretary, said "The United States remains a popular tourist destination for international visitors and the industry is breaking records. US travel and tourism ended 2006 strongly and it looks like the momentum is continuing into 2007. Also, it ensures fairly easy entry of visitors under the "visa waiver program", that is applicable to various EU member states.
The travel and tourism sector of US is among most important sectors of the US economy. As a travel destination, it is becoming popular among the East Asia- Pacific tourists. The States, destinations, private sector, and localities contribute a major part in the travel and tourism promotion.
As per a research analyst at RNCOS, "US has a strong tourism industry as it is the most diversified and capable in the world. It is dedicated to standard quality service, entertainment, and marketing. It can be expected that with such a progress, US may be heading towards creating a new record in the number of international visitors".
