Taiwanese Drug Manufacturers in US Go Back Home for Investments

Many pharmaceutical businessmen of Taiwan are looking back home in need of investmentsfollowing huge success in the USA market.

Following huge success in the USA market, many pharmaceutical businessmen of Taiwan have turned back to their island in need of investments, believing that they can take benefits of the domestic technological and price edges to further boost their growth impetus.

Watson Pharmaceutical's Chairman Allen Chao is one of the returnees, once the 5th biggest pharma company in USA, Chen Chih min, creator of Andrx Pharmaceuticals, once the 10th biggest pharma company in USA, and Impax Labs's president Hsu Chung Chiang. They all have returned to Taiwan to hunt for technological cohorts in the last few years. Their target is of getting order to make Taiwan their manufacturing base and enhance their competitiveness in global market.

In 2005 with profits of 1.65 bn. USD, Watson, or famous as API (Active Pharmaceutical items) has repetitively augmented its bet in Taiwan's Sinopharm from the previous year, to more than 50 percent now to get raw materials safe supply. Watson overtook the Uni-President venture to become the company's largest shareholder.

In the meantime, furnished by a broad network of sales in USA, Watson is currently the key sales representative for Standard Chemical & Pharmaceutical (two out of the 3 biggest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Taiwan and in US) and the Yung Shin Pharmaceutical.

Chen Chih min, founder of "Andrx" the sixteenth biggest generic drug manufacturer in the USA has set up a pharma corporation in Taiwan. He bought the Parke-Davis's production line in the Taiwan's northern province of Taoyuan.
