Russian Government To Invest 30 Billion Rubles For Nanotechnology

Jun 25, 2007

Russian government will invest 30 Billion Rubles for Nanotechnology, the program is intended to promote Nanotechnology in the country.

In a meeting of the Russian cabinet held on the 7th of this month, Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov allotted around 30 bn rubles for the period uptill 2010 under the new 'Federal Target Program'. This program is intended to promote Nanotechnology in the country.

Although, very few in the present government understand where will the funds be channelized in actuality, they suppose that nanotechnology along with other emerging technologies, are bound to promote industrial growth in Russia. Education and Science Minister, Andrey Fursenko for example came up with suggestions that the Federal Target Program be employed for Development of Nano-Industrial Infrastructure from 2007 -2010.

However, the program also faces resistance from some corners. For example, the Minister for Economic Development Mr. German Gref was not convinced by Fursenko's suggestions. He argued that since the draft budget for the year 2007 of the State of Duma has already been issued, no change can possibly be introduced at this stage.

For whatever else, Mikhail Fradkov has been persistent on his plans. "There are some more days for those who want to think of the possible solutions" the PM mused, indicating that nanotechnology would subsequently be included in the entire budget.

It seems as though Fradkov greatly trusts the possibility of nanotechnology enriching economic prosperity in Russia. Although only a few of those present in the meeting knew what nanotechnology really meant, Fradkov confirmed, that his office is all set to direct major revenues for the success of the project.

Everything can take place as the future beckons to an era of incredible technological and economic progress. However, by all standards the expectations are grossly high, which calls for a more cautious approach.
