Nokia – the well-known name in the world of mobile phones - is spreading its horizon to Africa for the purpose of making the region next big market of wireless. Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said this in news published by ZeeNews on 1st June.
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo noticed that Nokia only became famous and number one phone maker in China since it came and invested in that region early and as a result created powerful channels. In the news that ZeeNews had published Kallasvuo also said, "Things are also starting to happen in a major way in Africa. We are seeing things in Africa now that we saw in China seven or eight years ago.” Though the executive didn’t mention about the countries in Africa, which Nokia saw as its biggest opportunities.
In the last week of May, Gartner the Research Firm said, growth in economies like Egypt and South Africa remains key driving force behind a six percent rise in the sales of phone in Europe, MEA (Middle East & Africa) during the 1st quarter.”
There are many mobile markets in Africa, which have undergone drastic charges, developing from the ‘state run’ monopolies to the markets of competitive growth. In the last couple of years, the liberation of this has spurred much of the swift growth and the markets are now developing from this volatile increase phase into a much mature and controlled phase. Besides this, the phase will bring more change of attraction for many of the operators working in the markets.
As a matter of fact, the pre-paid availability is another solid fact in the region, for the quick development of subscribers. Because of the reason that, most people depend on low per-capita group of income, it has become easy for the local people to have access to mobile services in their own comfortableness.
According to RNCOS report “African Mobile Handset Market Analysis (2006-2009)”, “By the year 2009, the subscriber base is predicted to rise up to 24 million because of the reason that it is the fast growing market.”
