Jun 24, 2007

The Ireland govt. said that this initiative is to make Ireland a safer place to live and to provide better security levels US$ 3.8 million will be funded for development of CCTV systems.

Around US $ 3.8 million will be funded for development of CCTV systems in Ireland. Overall, 87 new CCTV cameras in 19 selected areas will be deployed where crime is at peak. The govt. said that this initiative is to make Ireland a safer place to live and to provide better security levels to businesses. Ireland police rated CCTV as a tool of extreme utility to prevent & detect crime.

David Hanson, Criminal Justice Minister announced this initiative and was optimistic of success of CCTV deployment in Ireland. He said that this would provide public & businesses with 'extra reassurance'. He added that crime in any form is strictly intolerable and a person is liable for prosecution once he/she is caught.

Till August, over 450 arrests were made in the city of Belfast at its city centre using CCTV deployment in this year. Assistant chief constables have given their thumbs up to the new proposal and rated it as an effective solution to prevent & detect crime. They said that it can help police in making quick & appropriate responses & can also act as evidence in investigations.

"The fear of terrorism after September 11, 2001 attacks in the U.S, and the rising crime rates across the countries have forced the respective governments to put public safety and security in the top priority and invest in it accordingly," according to the report "
CCTV Market Update (2006-2007)" published by RNCOS.

Sir Desmond Rea, Chairman of Policing Board, welcomed this proposal as a contribution to reduce crime in Ireland. He said that making a safe community for people is a difficult task and CCTV will allow them to accomplish it. He noted that people feel secure when they know that a CCTV is under operation.
