India’s foremost FMCG, Dabur India Limited, with a combined turnover of above Rs. 2000 crores, declared its entry plans into the fast-paced Indian organized retail sector. Dabur India’s Board of Directors sanctioned its debut into the organized retail sector in India via its subsidiary company, H&B Stores Limited, according to a Retail India Tv report.
Dabur India plans to commit Rs 1.40 billion by 2010 towards opening chain of retail stores catering to health & beauty, to establish itself in the Indian retail market. It aims to earn revenue worth Rs 17 billion within 5 years.
Business Standard reports, Dabur India’s chairman, V C Burman, saying: " Retail is the next big focus area for Dabur India. H&B Stores plans to set up 350 retail stores across India in 5 years and expand it to over 1,000 stores by its 10th year of operation.”
Organized retail, which presently comprises 3% of the overall Indian retail market, has fantastic growth prospects. Armed with knowledge about the Indian consumer and ability to offer a wonderful shopping experience without incurring burden on the customer’s pocket, Dabur India is poised to penetrate the Indian retail market.
According to research analyst at RNCOS, Indian retail sector has grown enormously and is poised to cross the set limitation by the conventional industry. Key domestic players in Indian market are embracing FMCG as their preferred field of growth. Dabur Foods, now, contributes 10% to the sales of Dabur India. The Q4 2006 growth of Dabur India of 2006 has been approx 45% over 2005 and it’s projected to register the similar kind of growth patterns in this year also.
