According to the report published by The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, the healthcare industry of Central Texas' contributes US $8.8 billion to its economy, leading to fresh opportunities for the expansion of healthcare industry.
In general, the report finds that the Texas healthcare industry has 85,466 workforce in the central Texas region, which symbolizes 12% of it employment base.
In 2005, the healthcare industry accounted for 5.7% of the central Texas job base and the national average was 7.1 percent. As per the report, City would make an additional 2.3 billion US Dollars, 22 175 new jobs, and 820 million US Dollars in earnings.
Dave Porter, senior vice president of economic development for the chamber said that it had number of economic advantages for this well-built healthcare sector including the opportunities and jobs they generate in the region. The healthcare industry is one of the leading job employers countrywide.
According to Seton CEO Charles Barnett, this study describes that healthcare has huge impact for the community. Not only does it keep people healthy, but also increases the country's economy. He also added that within 15 years, Seton would need to double in size to maintain the population growth in Central Texas region. This will require 800 new physicians and over 2,000 new nurses.
Jon Foster CEO of St. David's told that the economic contribution of local medical centers to the local society is almost incomparable by any other industry.
