The Biscuit Company Morina Baie is in discussion with Bahlsen, the French subsidiary of German bakery group, for acquisition. If the deal between the two is successful, then biscuit industry of France will show significant changes. Bahlsen Saint Michel is the leading cookies manufacturer while Morina Baie manufactures cakes and biscuits.
Consequently, the Biscuits Company Morina Baie, that has an average annual sale of 136 million USD, will double in market size and show a significant increase in the market share. Bahlsen also own the brand Leibniz and produce a variety of products exclusively for Christmas. Now the company is planning to sell its French business in order to concentrate on its important European marks.
The group manufactures own-brand biscuits; pastries and cakes are the market pioneers in Germany's sweet biscuit sector. The company recorded annual revenue of 672 million USD in 2005, which is 3.5 percent less than the previous year.
The overall French market for biscuits, crackers and cookies grew by 3.7 percent in 2003 to reach a value of 2.9 USD billion in 2004. And the market for biscuits, crackers and cookies is predicted to rise by 8 percent in 2009 from 2004 to attain a value of 3.3 billion USD.
