German Automobile Industry Federation (VDA) on Oct 11 2006 said that Car sales in Germany rose 4.5% in September 2006 compared to the same period previous year (2005).
New car registration in Germany reached 298,000 units last month (Sep '06), which the VDA described as the best Sep performance since 1999. The Federation attributed rise in sales to fall in fuel prices, dampening sales during summer.
However, Western Europe car sales in Sep '06 went down by 2.5% compared to the same period last year (2005). France reported the biggest decline of 13.3%, as per the Frankfurt based Federation.
As per VDA, this Sep (2006) had one less working day than previous Sep (2005) in most countries of Western Europe. Therefore, sales can be viewed as respectable in Sep this year, given the outstanding results that were achieved in same month last year (2005).
As per the registration data released by ACEA European automotive industry association on Sep 6, 2006, in Western Europe around 1.35 Million vehicles were sold in the month of Sep, bringing the total sales to 11.3 Million for the initial 9 months of the year 2006, 0.1% above compared to same period in 2005. In Britain car registration slipped 0.7%, while registrations in Italy dipped 3.2% amidst growing customer caution in the 3rd largest car market in Europe. In Spain registrations for new car fell 7.2% per year, whereas in France it plunged 13.3% last month.
